DEVELOPMENT

"Temple of the Souls" has been developed through the MultiStages Script Development Series under artistic director and book co-writer Lorca Peress. AEA showcase performances have already received numerous awards.

Producer Lorca Peress flies to Puerto Rico to meet Dr. Ricardo Alegria, 90-year old archeologist and historian.

He offers extensive research and a private tour of the Institute’s Cultural Museum which he founded.

NEXT LINK PROJECT 2017

We are chosen as a Next Link Project for NYMF (New York Musical Festival). Only 10 Next Link Project musicals are chosen from over 200 submissions. “Temple of the Souls” was presented in NYMF in July 2017.

Second AEA Showcase at Theatre for the New City’s, NYC, starring Noellia Hernandez, Andres Quintero, Debra Cardona, Seph Stanek and ensemble, produced by MultiStages directed by Lorca Peress. Talk Back and demonstration with Roman Guaraguaorix (Redhawk) Perez, Cacique Chief of the Maisiti Yukayeke Taíno, a tribe of the Taíno Nation in the Bronx, NY.

SHOWCASE AWARDS

MultiStages wins an MCAF Grant from LMCC/DCA. 6 Innovative Theatre Award Nominations: Outstanding Production (MultiStages and Co.), Outstanding Original Music (Dean Landon and Anika Paris), Outstanding Original Script (Anita Velez-Mitchell, Lorca Peress, Anika Paris), Outstanding Innovative Design (masks, Marla Speer), Outstanding Costume Design (Marla Speer), Best Lead Actress (Debra Cardona).  Lorca Peress receives a Areyto Drama Award at the NYC Bronx Museum of Art in recognition of her work in support of the Taíno culture and its legacy. Anita Velez-Mitchell dies at the age of 99. A proclamation from the Governor of Puerto Rico is presented to her family at her memorial concert with songs from Temple of the Souls.

FIRST AEA SHOWCASE

First AEA Showcase at The West End Theater, NYC, produced by MultiStages, starring Jen Anaya and Joshua Torrez. Talk backs with Jorge Estaban, Museum of the American Indian Smithsonian Institution lecturer gives a talk-back. Cacike Cibanakan (NY Taíno Tribal chief) and tribe members perform a music/dance demonstration. We receive 4 HOLA Awards (Hispanic Organization of Latin Actors) for the 2011 showcase: 2012 Gilberto Zaldivar Outstanding Production Award, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Choreography and Lighting. We were honored at an areyto (a Taíno pow-wow) at the Museo del Barrio
